Back in October carpet retailer United Carpets officially went into administration with Begbies Traynor being appointed as administrators. United Carpets were retailers of bed and carpets and although not particularly cheap carpets they were at one time one of the leading British retailers in this market. As with most of the retailers who have been badly affected in this current recession, the United Carpets Group had many stores they have had to close and are now seeking rent reductions in a few of the remaining stores and unless these reductions can be agreed then the stores in question will close their doors.
A lot of the retailers who have had to close and go into administration haven’t embraced the Internet. United Carpets have to compete with all of the online carpet companies who are able to sell cheap carpet as they have no huge rent liabilities.
